DayZ 384,400 Kilometers Away

The Moon is an ambitious map mod project which aims to take DayZ to a completely different environment.

No oxygen, extreme temperatures, low gravity, and an entirely new gear set designed to help you survive one of the harshest places humankind has ever set foot. Explore a 10x10km map modeled on actual surface scans from the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter.

New Moon Mechanics

The Moon features a number of new gameplay mechanics and features not native to vanilla DayZ, including but not limited to: pressurized structures, spacesuit decompression, low-gravity physics, micrometeorite storms, and localized anomalous events.

The Moon also fundamentally alters some core DayZ mechanics like darkness volumes, loot spawns, player spawns and more, all in an effort to expand and improve upon the fundamental survival experience.

No Vanilla Allowed

The Moon comes packed with 120+ custom assets, everything from simple crates to multi-level structures. It is painstakingly crafted to provide the most compelling near-future sci-fi lunar environment possible.

Vanilla weapons, items and clothing are all retextured to fit the Moon's setting. Some have also had their functionality changed to be better-suited for the experience.

Seasonal Development

The Moon is planned to be an ongoing project beyond its initial release to the DayZ community. The map will be made available to everyone as a 0.1 release, with hotfixes and minor QoL updates in between major releases.

Season 1: New Moon will launch Q4 2026 and continue into 2027. A new season will begin when significant core features are ready for release. An official Moon Experimental server will be spun up at Moon launch and remain available to players throughout the full development cycle.

Deepest Darkest Lore

The Moon is designed to have an evolving narrative, with each major release being like a new chapter in a book. Rather than waiting to provide a comprehensive lore addition near the end of its development, The Moon will tell a progressive story as it matures.

Deepest lore comes in many forms. Check out The Embassy on Steam, a short standalone horror game that gets the story started.

MOON SOON

Message from the developer:

I'm currently approaching one year of development on this project, and the community has been extremely supportive and encouraging this whole time. I can't thank you all enough for expressing your enthusiasm, volunteering for playtests, and sharing your ideas so far as we approach launch.

That being said, at its core, The Moon is about finding new ways to murder you. But I don't want to do it with cheap, gimmicky, artificially difficult methods. I hope to push the core DayZ survival experience into unexplored territory. I believe DayZ is at its most magical when you're in an unfamiliar place, facing unknown threats, and solving multiple problems at once just to stay alive.

I hope you'll help me strike that balance and accomplish this in a way that's satisfying and novel for everyone. I love you, but I also have to kill you.
